Denim with an uneven edge. The waistband sits high and keeps the line clean, then the hem finishes on a slant, so the skirt moves differently with every step rather than falling flat.

Tuck in a fitted tee or a fine knit so the high waist stays visible, or wear an oversized shirt loose over the top for a slouchier line. Keep the denim away from a hot tumble dry so the hem keeps its shape.
